2010 Tasmanian Standardbred Yearling Sale

40 yearlings, 23 eligible for the Australian Pacing Gold Series - 20 different stallions represented - plus $300 travel vouchers for inter-state purchasers, and the ability to use the Tasbred Breeders Coupons at the this month's Tasmanina Premier Yearling Sale at Inveresk Showgrounds on Saturday, January 16th.

Local stallion JR Mint leads the way with seven yearlings, but it is most likely that the five yearlings by Artsplace stallion Art Major - three colts and two fillies – will be well sought after.

Alabar Farms based super sire Art Major, who was Australia’s leading 2yo sire last season and whose book this breeding season has been full and closed for some time, is represented by a half-brother to Beena Buster 1:56.8 and $152,518 and Fake Idee 1:58.3, a half-brother to the multi-classics winner Karalta Crown ($128,351) and a filly from the family of top racemare Ashlees Babe.

Grinfromeartoear, Modern Art and Blissfull Hall,  all of whom finished in the top four in the Australian 2YO Sires Premiership last season, have offspring in the sale.

Grinfromeartoear (by Artsplace), has a colt from a daughter of NSW Ladyship Mile winner Whitby Heritage 1:58.8 ($201,758) and a filly from the well known "Bonus" family of leading Victorian mentor Ron Pocock.

Cambest stallion Blissfull Hall has a colt and a filly, both from race-winning mares.

Another Artsplace sire, Modern Art is represented by a colt from the family of Roydon Glen, Roydon Scott and Jagged Knight.

First season sires include 2002 Horse of the Year in North America, Real Desire, represented for the first time at an Australian yearling sale by a colt out of My Charlotte (8 wins), a daughter of the Blue Bonnet winner Risen Star.

Metropolitan, by Panderosa, is another first season sire, whose four yearlings in the sale include close relatives of Beena Buster, Karalta Crown, Totally Perfect and Orta Be Ruthless 1:59.2 ($87,540).

Bettor's Delight's only  entrant is a filly from Cloudy Road, a five-winning half-sister to the Dandy Patch Stakes and Hobart Cup winner Foxfighter 1:57.7 and the highly promising Karalta Macloud 1:59.4.

Tasmanian based stallions are represented by JR Mint (7), Dieberspace (2), while Mountain Glory and French Babe both have a single yearling nominated. Time Stands Still, who now resides in Victoria, has two colts in the sale.

DVD's of yearlings are now available from Tasracing Harness Manager Kevin Neilson (03 6212 9316).

Dieberspace's son takes out Classic

Dierberdon’s win the Tasmanian Guineas gave his sire  Dieberspace (1.49.8) his first Classic winner when he lead from barrier to box in the $20,000 3yo time honored event. The Guineas has, over the years, been won by some top class pacers, including Genghis Karalta, back in 1991, who went on to win over $200,000, and, more recently, NSW star Dereks Pick. The Guineas is steeped in Tasmanian harness racing tradition.

Dierberspace, whose second crop grace the track this season, stands at Rick & Naomi Hinds Flowery Gully “Kell Cell Stud”. He is by Die Laughing and has produced a quality crop in his first season, with 12 to greet the starter for three winners. As well as Dieberdon, Dieberspace produced last season's Youthful Stakes winner Maybe Doc, a sub 2 minute winner.

Dieberspace has only two lots in the upcoming Tasmanian Premier Yearling sale on January 16th - an athletic colt, Lot 14, out of Nothin Gained, a former quality 2 and 3 year old who was placed in the Blue Bonnet and Evicus Stakes as a 2yo, then qualified for the Oaks final before going on to win the Tasmanian Matron Stakes. By the great broodmare sire Torado Hanover, Nothin Gained is the dam of Nothin to Lose, a winner of 12 races, and is from the family of Queensland Breeders Champion Bells Beach and former top flight juvenile Fussie Jussie.

Lot 25 is a brown filly out of Smooth Fella mare Lady Namdrah.  Lady Namdrah is out of a half sister to Lumber Boy, a 1.58 winner in NZ, and also a USA winner, from the family of dual Hunter Cup winner Blossom Lady, Mister DG and Ima Orphan. Her 4th dam, Blossom Song, is a half sister to champion mare Robin Dundee.

Both Dieberspace lots are offered by Joanne Denny & John & Celilla Reid. One could do much worse than consider these two lots.
