What has happened to the Tasmanian Country Derby? Pity to see these races fall over. Where are the 3yo's at the moment.
Looks like we are heading towards a major problem in Tassie woth our younger horses if we cannot get a field for a race like this?
Well the T.P.C had a $8 000 3A0/1 programed on Sunday.
Racing Services Tasmania (handicapping division) decided not to extend nominations on this race as they believed that no other horses world come in to the race. (we did have 4)
The race will be re-run at our last race meeting on April 4. Although we are up against the Tasmanian Derby & Tasmanian Oaks along with a $8 000 3YO & older non winners race at Hobart the following Sunday.
It is also worth noting that 8 out of the 12 starters in the last race this Sunday night where balloted from Carrick from a race that R.S.T or H.R.T decided not to divide. (there was more starters that decided not to go)
The C.P.P.C would appreciate any ones input in what we can do in the programing of this race and if any changes could be done eg. race distance, state type, timing etc.
What a fabulous afternoon it was at Carrick, a track so well maintained should be used more often though don't you think? It was nice to see the food and bar facilities kept open long after the last race - three cheers to the organisers.
I went to the New Norfolk meeting (took a while to find though as there are no signs to guide you, luckily I eventually followed a horse-float) which was also a great day - must be the prettiest track around I reckon - but the bar etc was shut down as soon as the racing finished, such a shame as I'm sure it would have been well patronised if kept going for a while.
One particular point though, the rubbish bins at New Norfolk were few and far between which meant there was rubbish everywhere, yet at Carrick where there were bins all around the place, almost the only rubbish was betting tickets floating around. Hopefully next time New Norfolk club will find some more bins!
It would be great to have more race dates at Carrick.
The committee did a great job. With the bar, fashions, etc.
Is Carrick a good enough track to have sky channel race meetings.
Or could it be turned into our "Menangle" by extending the track to make it 1200m or further?
